In response to the reports, Commodore Ayo-Vaughan clarified that the Nigerian Navy had followed standard operating procedures and deployed personnel onboard to supervise the discharge of the product at a facility in Bonny, ensuring strict compliance with the NMDPRA’s approval.
However, on August 2, 2023, operatives from a private security firm, Tantita Security Services Ltd, approached a unit of Operation DELTA SAFE, claiming they had intelligence suggesting the vessel was carrying stolen crude oil.
In response, they requested to board the vessel to verify the alleged stolen product, despite its approved cargo.
