Nigerian Stars Light Up Istanbul Derby: Osimhen, Ndidi In Intense Battle As Galatasaray, Besiktas Share Points

Galatasaray and Besiktas shared the spoils in a heated Istanbul derby on Saturday, playing out a 1-1 draw at Rams Park.

Both Nigerian stars, Victor Osimhen and Wilfred Ndidi, featured from the start and delivered solid displays before being substituted in the second half. Ndidi made way for Kartal Yilmaz, while Mauro Icardi replaced Osimhen late on. Before his withdrawal, Ndidi was spotted calming Osimhen after a scuffle with a Besiktas player during the tense encounter.

The Black Eagles drew first blood in the 12th minute through English striker Tammy Abraham. However, the momentum shifted dramatically when Davinson Sanchez was sent off in the 34th minute, leaving Galatasaray with a numerical advantage.

The hosts capitalised after the break, with Ilkay Gundogan slotting home in the 55th minute to level the game. Despite relentless pressure, Okan Buruk’s men failed to break down Besiktas’ stubborn 10-man defence.

The stalemate ended Galatasaray’s perfect start to the Turkish Super Lig, snapping their run of seven straight wins. It also came as a disappointment after their midweek Champions League triumph over Liverpool, where Osimhen’s penalty sealed a famous victory.

Besiktas, on the other hand, will take confidence from their resilient performance. They remain fifth on the table with 13 points from seven matches, while Galatasaray stay top with 22 points from eight games.
