The 17-year-old had reportedly drowned in the pool of Bellevue Hotel in Douala on Sunday, January 28. His body was subsequently taken to the mortuary at CEBEC hospital in Douala.

Eight days later, on Monday, February 5, mortuary attendants made a chilling discovery – the teenager was sitting in a chair outside the mortuary. What made the situation even more eerie was the fact that the deceased, who had been naked when initially placed in the mortuary, was now clothed in a white robe and underwear.

The unexpected sight sent shockwaves throughout the hospital, prompting a crowd to gather outside the mortuary in disbelief.

Louis Maries Mbella, the head mortician, recounted the surreal moment when he was alerted by a security guard that the young man previously brought in had left the mortuary and was now sitting outside. Upon investigation, Mbella confirmed that it was indeed the same teenager who had been declared dead a week prior.

Even more perplexing was the claim from an eyewitness that the teenager, identified as Poupog Kevin, murmured the words, “Anne you promised me.” However, Kevin’s mother, Catherine Kouete, expressed disbelief at the situation, questioning how her son could move or speak after spending a week in the mortuary.

The Chief Mortician, while acknowledging the unusual nature of the incident, stated that such occurrences were not unprecedented in their line of work. He revealed that they had previously encountered instances where bodies had moved from their original positions.

Following traditional rites performed in the presence of Kevin’s family, his clothes and belongings were set on fire, and his body was returned to the mortuary.

The perplexing circumstances surrounding Kevin’s reappearance outside the mortuary have left many questioning the boundaries between life and death, and the incident has sparked widespread discussion and speculation within the community.

As investigations continue into this baffling occurrence, residents of Douala remain gripped by the inexplicable events that unfolded at the CEBEC hospital mortuary.
