Nigerians Grumble As FG Approves Construction Of 40 Houses In FCT For Nigerian Judges Written By Oshiobugie John In a significant move aimed at enhancing the living conditions of the judiciary, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the construction of 40 houses for judges in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This announcement was made by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, following an FEC meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu.

During a press briefing, Wike expressed the president’s concern regarding the current housing situation for judges and justices. He stated that President Tinubu is dissatisfied with the fact that judges are forced to live in unsafe rented accommodations and hotels, which compromises their ability to perform their duties effectively.

Wike revealed that the new housing development will be situated in the Kantampe district of Abuja and is expected to be completed within 15 months. The allocation of the houses will see 20 designated for the FCT High Court, 10 for the Federal High Court, and another 10 for the Court of Appeal.

“The president understands the importance of providing a conducive environment for judges to carry out their responsibilities,” Wike noted. “This initiative will ensure that judges have a secure and comfortable place to reside, allowing them to focus on their work without the distraction of inadequate housing.”

In addition to the housing project, the minister also announced the approval for the construction of access roads leading to the judicial quarters in the FCT, with an expected completion date of December. This includes the development of a new road from Artillery Road N11 to the judges’ quarters and improvements to all internal roads within the quarters.

Wike emphasized that these developments reflect the government’s commitment to supporting the judiciary and enhancing the overall efficiency of the legal system in Nigeria.
