A Nigerian community leader, who spoke to Punch on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that the Igbo community in Finland is particularly shaken by the developments surrounding Ekpa. He explained that while Ekpa has been a vocal advocate for Biafra’s secession, his inflammatory rhetoric has contributed to unrest in Nigeria, making his arrest a sensitive and dangerous issue for the Nigerian diaspora in Finland.

“Everyone is afraid to speak out about Ekpa’s arrest. Key members of the Igbo community here are reluctant to lend their voices,” the source shared. “Some people have already been accused of reporting Ekpa to the authorities and are being threatened. One person in particular is being targeted, even before Ekpa was remanded—imagine what will happen if he’s imprisoned. The atmosphere is tense, and people are terrified. These individuals are very dangerous.”

Another Nigerian resident in Finland, who also requested anonymity, echoed these concerns, describing the situation as one of heightened fear and uncertainty. “There’s a lot of tension among Nigerians here,” the resident said. “No one wants to speak up about Ekpa for fear of being hunted by his supporters. We believe that anyone who dares to speak out will be targeted. However, the Finnish government is trying to manage the situation.”
