Nigerians Must Adapt, Bwala Asserts In Defense Of Tinubu’s Cybersecurity Levy

Former spokesperson for the now-defunct Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, Daniel Bwala, has emphasized the necessity for Nigerians to adapt to the prevailing economic conditions in the country. Bwala made this assertion during a recent appearance on a Channels Television program, where he discussed the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) recent directive regarding a cybersecurity levy and other policies under the administration of Bola Tinubu.

The CBN recently issued a directive requiring all financial institutions, including commercial, merchant, non-interest banks, payment service banks, and mobile money operators, to implement a 0.5% cybersecurity levy on all electronic transactions.

Bwala argued that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is making crucial but difficult decisions and is not indifferent to the challenges facing Nigerians. He stressed that while these decisions may lead to temporary inconveniences, Nigerians must adapt, as hardship is not permanent.

He remarked, “It depends on who is assessing and what the motive behind the assessment is. Just like we perceive a bottle of water as either half full or half empty, we should focus on the facts, context, and perspective. When the President made these tough decisions, which are necessary but not convenient, it was understood that there would be temporary hardships, akin to a period of childbirth. In such times, personal sacrifices and adjustments are inevitable.”

Bwala further emphasized that while acknowledging the current hardships faced by Nigerians, the President has consistently recognized and addressed these challenges.
