The tragedy unfolded on December 25, 2022, when Vandi, then associated with the Ajiwe police division in Ajah, shot and killed Mrs. Raheem, who was pregnant at the time. The incident, which took place at the Ajah roundabout, stirred outrage across the nation. Two days post the event, Vandi faced suspension.

Prosecution by the Lagos state government saw Vandi arraigned on a singular count of murdering the lawyer. Throughout the trial, which commenced in January, several individuals provided testimonies against the accused, including the deceased’s husband, her sister, a police armourer, a pathologist, and five others. The prosecution furnished a total of 27 exhibits for scrutiny.
