Nigeria’s Destiny: Ugochukwu Ugwuanyi Fires Back At VeryDarkMan With Matthew 6:33

The founder of Remnant Christian Network (RCN), Apostle Arome Osayi, has continued to face criticism following his remarks that Nigeria’s divine calling is centred on global Christian revival rather than technological manufacturing.

Osayi, while preaching to his congregation on September 22, 2026, argued that Nigerians should not measure the country’s destiny solely by comparing its industrial development with that of countries such as China.

He maintained that Nigeria has a spiritual responsibility to provide missionary manpower and spread the Christian gospel across the world.

According to Osayi, Nigerians who ridicule the country for focusing on prayer while countries such as China concentrate on manufacturing fail to understand what he described as the different callings of nations.

His comments, however, generated strong reactions from social commentator VeryDarkMan and media personality Daddy Freeze, who challenged the idea that Nigeria should prioritise spiritual revival over technological innovation, industrialisation and economic development.

VeryDarkMan questioned the emphasis on prayer and revival, arguing that Nigeria also needs practical solutions in areas such as infrastructure, technology and economic productivity. He also questioned reports that Osayi had relocated his family to the United States, a country widely associated with technological advancement.

Daddy Freeze similarly criticised the position, arguing that Nigerians cannot demand economic progress while simultaneously accepting the idea that technological production should be left to other countries.

He, however, condemned those who mocked Osayi over his facial palsy, maintaining that criticism of the cleric’s views should not extend to ridiculing his health condition.

Supporters of Osayi’s position have meanwhile argued that spiritual revival and economic development are not necessarily contradictory. They pointed to the views of prominent Christian leaders who have similarly described Nigeria as having a significant role in global Christian evangelism.

Living Faith Church founder, Bishop David Oyedepo, has also spoken about Nigeria’s spiritual role, describing the country as being positioned to lead a global wave of spiritual awakening. He has equally linked the nation’s destiny to biblical principles, including the teaching in Matthew 6:33.

The debate has consequently expanded beyond Osayi’s original remarks, with supporters maintaining that Nigeria can pursue spiritual revival while simultaneously developing its economy, technology and human capital.

The controversy has also revived discussions about the relationship between faith, national development and Nigeria’s place in the global community, with opposing sides presenting different interpretations of what should define the country’s priorities and destiny.
