Nigeria’s Electricity Grid Collapse Sparks Nationwide Blackout, Citizens In Darkness....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The national grid’s collapse to 629MW on Monday plunged the nation into darkness, marking a critical setback for the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), as revealed by Naija News. Pressure to satisfy the demands of band A customers is believed to have contributed to the grid’s failure, exacerbating challenges within the sector. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and Distribution Companies (DisCos) have engaged in a blame game over their inability to fulfill contractual obligations.

According to the Independent System Operator (SO), a division of TCN, at 10:53 am on Monday, only 770MW was dispatched to 10 DisCos. Shockingly, the Load Distribution Profile showed that Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) received zero megawatts.

Acknowledging the grid collapse, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company released a statement via its official channels on Monday morning.

This recent blackout follows a similar incident on Sunday, further aggravating the challenges faced by homes and businesses deprived of electricity for prolonged periods. Remarkably, this marks the second grid collapse in less than a month, occurring shortly after the controversial tariff increase for Band A consumers by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
