During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Utomi expressed concern over the decline of culture and values in Nigeria, attributing this deterioration to the collapse of institutions. He stated, “Ultimately, values shape human progress. When individuals of character and commitment to public service occupy positions of authority, our country will experience a turnaround.”

Utomi further argued that genuine progress cannot be realized without strong institutions, including a reliable judiciary and an effective electoral body. He criticized the current state of Nigeria’s judiciary, labeling it a “laughing stock,” and described the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as weak.

“The biggest challenge we face is the collapse of culture in Nigeria. Values are fundamental to human progress. We need a values revolution. Institutions are critical for development; if we can commit to building stronger institutions that hold individuals accountable and ensure the rule of law, we can make significant strides,” he remarked.

“Look at our judiciary; it is a laughing stock. No country can advance without a dependable judiciary. Our other institutions, including INEC, are similarly weak. We must ensure we establish strong institutions and values that highlight the importance of character. I am confident we can achieve this, as I have witnessed it happen throughout history,” Utomi concluded.
