Speaking on Wednesday at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the United Arab Emirates, the president reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to environmental sustainability and economic growth.
Delivering his keynote address on the theme “From Climate Imperatives into Economic Prosperity: Bridging Africa with the Global Energy Future,” Tinubu underscored the need for collective action, knowledge exchange, and collaborative efforts to combat climate change.
“The fight against climate change is not merely an environmental necessity but a global economic opportunity to reshape the trajectory of our continent and the global energy landscape,” Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser, quoted Tinubu in a statement released on Wednesday.
“As leaders, stakeholders, and citizens of the planet, we stand at a critical moment in human history. To succeed, we must innovate, collaborate, and act decisively as a united global community.”
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions, the president outlined Nigeria’s actionable programmes based on three key pillars: Energy Transition, Climate Resilience, and Sustainable Development.
“Our vision of sustainability aligns with global aspirations while addressing local realities,” Tinubu stated.
“Our energy transition efforts focus on diversifying energy sources, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and prioritising cleaner energy as a cornerstone of our national development strategy.”
He highlighted that Nigeria is advancing infrastructure to facilitate the widespread adoption of Compressed Natural Gas and electric vehicles, while also leveraging solid minerals to support the green energy transition.
