NiMet’s latest weather forecast, disclosed on Saturday in Abuja, highlights thunderstorms expected on Sunday, impacting areas across Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Kebbi, Kaduna, Gombe, and Yobe States in the early hours. Later in the day, moderate thunderstorms and rainfall are forecasted for parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Benue, and Kogi States. Additionally, scattered showers are expected in the morning across Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Delta States.
Moving into the afternoon and evening, scattered showers are anticipated in Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Anambra, Enugu, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa States.
On Monday morning, heavy rains are expected in Kebbi, Sokoto, Bauchi, Kaduna, Borno, Taraba, and Katsina States. The following day will see a combination of moderate thunderstorms and showers in Jigawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Sokoto, Borno, Zamfara, Yobe, Adamawa, and Katsina States.
NiMet predicts morning showers for the Federal Capital Territory and Plateau States on Tuesday, followed by more moderate thunderstorms and showers later in the day across the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, and Kogi States. Morning showers are also expected in Edo, Rivers, and Delta States, with cloudy skies prevailing in southern regions.
In the afternoon and evening, intermittent rain is forecasted for the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, and Niger States. Morning rain is projected in Edo, Delta, Imo, and Anambra States, with cloudy conditions in other southern areas. Later in the day, intermittent rain is expected in Ondo, Edo, Osun, Ekiti, Oyo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Bayelsa States.
NiMet advises precautionary measures due to the possibility of strong winds preceding thunderstorms. The agency urges residents to avoid flood-prone areas to minimize the risk of urban flooding in major cities.
