NIVEA Responds To NAFDAC’s Invisible Roll On Caution: Safety Comes FirstBeiersdorf Nivea Consumer Products Nigeria Ltd has reassured customers regarding the safety of its products after a warning from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). The agency advised Nigerians to avoid the Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on deodorant (50ml), which was recently recalled.

This recall was prompted by an alert from the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products, which identified batch number 93529610 as concerning. NAFDAC raised alarms over the presence of 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde, a chemical prohibited in cosmetics due to potential health risks, including reproductive harm and skin irritation.

In a statement released on Thursday, NAFDAC noted that the recalled product, known for its 48-hour protection, is manufactured in Germany and bears the Bar Code Number 42299882.

In response, NIVEA clarified through its media consultant that the product batch in question has not been sold in Nigeria. They emphasized that the batch expired in January 2022 and was compliant with the European cosmetic regulations at that time.

The statement read: “NIVEA Black & White Invisible Roll On Deodorant Batch No. 93529610 Not On Sale in Nigeria. We acknowledge the safety alert issued by NAFDAC regarding this batch and confirm that it has never been marketed in Nigeria, thus it was not recalled by Beiersdorf. The product, in compliance with regulations, expired in January 2022.
