The Katsina State branch of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened to initiate an indefinite strike over the delayed implementation of the new minimum wage. The NLC warned that unless the state government provides a positive response by Monday, 25th November, regarding the payment of the ₦70,000 minimum wage to workers, the strike will commence.

Hussain Hamisu, the Chairman of the Katsina NLC, expressed frustration with the government’s failure to begin paying the new wage despite the expiration of the agreed-upon deadline for negotiations. Hamisu emphasized that the decision to strike follows a directive from the NLC’s national leadership, following the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Port Harcourt.

“The committee set up by the state government to work on the new minimum wage has concluded its task, as the deadline for its work has passed. If by Monday there is no positive response from the government, we will declare an indefinite strike, in line with the instructions from the NLC NEC meeting in Port Harcourt,” Hamisu stated, as reported by The Nation.
