Additionally, the NLC has threatened to shut down telecom operations across the country if telecommunications companies fail to implement the agreed 35% tariff adjustment, rejecting the 50% hike initially approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
In a communiqué released after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, the NLC leadership condemned the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) ongoing reclassification of electricity consumers.
The statement read: “The NEC firmly rejects the deceptive reclassification of electricity consumers by NERC, which aims to forcibly move users from lower bands to Band A under the pretense of service improvement, while in reality, imposing undue financial hardship on the masses.”
Reports indicate that this warning follows opposition from workers in the electricity sector, under the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), who have criticized the Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, and NERC for prioritizing tariff hikes over actual service improvements.
