The Sikorsky SK76 helicopter, operated by East Winds Aviation, had departed from the Port Harcourt Military Base (DNPM) and was en route to the FPSO – NUIMS ANTAN oil rig when the incident occurred at 11:22 a.m.
NNPCL spokesman Olufemi Soneye confirmed the helicopter was chartered by the company and provided details of the flight. Emergency services quickly responded, and rescue operations are currently underway.
Odutayo Oluseyi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, reported that eight individuals were on board at the time of the crash. Authorities confirmed that the helicopter ditched into the waters near Bonny Finima and that rescue efforts have commenced.
NNPCL stated, “We will continue to monitor the situation and provide regular updates as events unfold. Our thoughts and prayers are with the passengers, crew, and their families during this challenging time. We are committed to supporting the ongoing search and rescue operation.
