NNPC Reveals How Motorists Can Access ₦66 Fuel Discount At Its Retail Outlets

Published

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has clarified that motorists seeking to benefit from its ₦66-per-litre petrol discount must make their purchases through the company’s mobile application.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the state-owned petroleum company announced the condition through its official X account over the weekend, explaining that access to the discounted price would be restricted to transactions completed through the NNPC Fuel App.

The development follows the Federal Government’s announcement of a 30-day fuel price discount intended to ease the burden of rising petrol costs on Nigerians, particularly commercial transport operators.

NNPC stated that motorists would need to download its application and use it to pay for fuel at the discounted rate to qualify for the offer.

The app-based arrangement has, however, raised concerns among some Nigerians, with questions emerging over how motorists without smartphones, reliable internet access or the necessary digital payment skills would benefit from the initiative.

NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, explained that the ₦66-per-litre reduction under the Independence Anniversary promotion was the same initiative as the 30-day petrol discount announced by the Federal Government on October 8, 2026.

Odeh disclosed that the promotion, which was initially scheduled to run from October 1 to October 7, had been extended until October 31, 2026.

He told Leadership that restricting access to the discount through the NNPC Fuel App was intended to ensure effective control, prevent abuse and guarantee that the benefits reached the intended customers.

The initiative is part of efforts to provide temporary relief to fuel consumers amid elevated petrol prices and the resulting pressure on transportation and household expenses.

However, the requirement to use a mobile application could limit access for some motorists, particularly those who rely on cash payments or have limited access to digital services.

The effectiveness of the discount will therefore depend not only on its duration and availability at participating outlets but also on how easily eligible motorists can access and use the prescribed payment platform.
