NNPP Breaks Silence: Why We Won’t Punish Kwankwaso’s Ally, Jibrin, Over Tinubu Meeting

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, made this known during an interview with Punch.

According to Johnson, the meeting between Jibrin and the President was not a secret, and since the party was informed, it cannot be deemed an act of disloyalty or anti-party behavior.

“There’s nothing like that,” he said. “Engaging with individuals in the ruling party or even with the President is not considered anti-party conduct, especially when the party is in the loop.”

He continued, “It’s premature to talk about sanctions. As I’ve said before, we are a democratic party. People come and go in politics, but what matters is that the party continues to grow.”

He further emphasized the party’s open and democratic nature, saying:
“We’ve always maintained that we are open to various possibilities, and I believe Hon. Mumuni’s comments reflect that openness. We may not be at the end of the road, but we are getting close.”

Jibrin’s closed-door meeting with President Tinubu on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa stirred speculation about a potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jibrin, a known ally of NNPP leader Rabiu Kwankwaso, later told reporters that he hasn’t ruled out the option of leaving the NNPP for the APC.
