NNPP Reacts Strongly To Kwankwaso’s Engagement With OttiThe National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has strongly condemned the recent visit of its former presidential candidate, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to Governor Alex Otti of Abia State. The NWC, in an emergency meeting held on Sunday at the Rockview Hotel in Apapa, Lagos, described the November 9 visit as a “deceptive ploy” tied to a recent Abia State High Court ruling impacting the party’s internal structure.

The NNPP’s internal crisis has escalated in recent weeks, with a faction of the party expelling Kwankwaso, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, and members of the Kwankwasiya group. Tensions have also flared within the Kano State chapter, where some members have called for an end to the influence Kwankwaso wields over the party.

In a statement issued by the NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Abdulrasalam Abdulrazaq, the party asserted that Kwankwaso and his group had been officially expelled and had no legitimate standing within the party. The statement further emphasized that any claims to leadership or representation by these expelled members were “irresponsible and amounted to impersonation.”

The controversy stems from a recent ruling by the Abia State High Court, which instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to transfer the administration of the NNPP to the party’s Board of Trustees, headed by Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, in accordance with the NNPP’s 2022 constitution.

The NWC called on Governor Otti to refrain from interfering in the party’s internal matters, warning that any involvement with Kwankwaso could lead to efforts to “destabilise” the NNPP ahead of the 2027 general elections. The statement acknowledged Otti’s democratic credentials, urging him to respect the separation of powers.

The NNPP also criticized Kwankwaso for allegedly using his influence to sow division within the party since joining in 2022, further intensifying the internal conflicts.
