NNPP Unveils Presidential Aspirant; Kwankwaso Speaks On His Party Exit

Speaking at the party’s 9th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Thursday, Kwankwaso reaffirmed his commitment to the NNPP while remaining open to dialogue with other political stakeholders. He clarified that the meeting was not meant to announce any defection.

“Many believed we would use today to declare whether I will stay in NNPP or join another party. That was never the intention. We are comfortable and happy in our party,” Kwankwaso said. He added that while the NNPP is not desperate, it is open to collective engagement with stakeholders, stating, “We believe we have something to offer at the highest leadership level of this country.”

Earlier, NNPP National Chairman Ajuji Ahmed officially confirmed Kwankwaso as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 presidential election. He described the NNPP as the “beautiful bride” of Nigerian politics, gaining prominence through its progressive manifesto focused on citizens’ welfare. Ahmed also commended Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for restoring peace and positively impacting millions, reflecting the party’s vision for a new Nigeria.

Regarding upcoming elections, NNPP National Secretary Dipo Olayoku said the party is prepared for the November 8, 2025 Anambra governorship election and the FCT council polls in February 2026. He also announced that preparations to elect a new National Working Committee will begin soon, as the tenure of the current executives, elected in April 2022, nears its end. The party encouraged Nigerians to register for Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), emphasizing, “Your vote is your voice and power to elect credible leaders.”
