It has been reported that Governor Fubara, who had a falling out with his predecessor, Wike, is facing impeachment proceedings by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, a supporter of Wike, along with other House members, initiated the impeachment process against the governor.

Wike’s allies took action by suspending the Majority Leader of the House, Ehie Edison, who is believed to be loyal to Fubara.

Following a meeting between governors elected under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, Wike emphasized that the battle would continue, even if it leads to significant consequences.

Wike stated, “You know I will not back down. If heaven descends, let it do so, and everyone will find peace.”

He continued, “Anybody familiar with me understands my stance: I will not yield to threats. You know I will not back down. If heaven descends, let it do so, and everyone will find peace.”

The ongoing dispute continues despite reports suggesting that President Bola Tinubu has resolved the crisis.

The planned impeachment has triggered turmoil in the state, with party supporters staging protests in Port-Harcourt, the state’s capital city.
