Obi Cubana, born Obinna Iyiegbu, has said his growing interest in politics is rooted in a desire to encourage meaningful participation and promote inclusive governance across Nigeria.
In a statement released on Monday, the entrepreneur and socialite clarified that his engagement in political discussions is not driven by personal ambition or the pursuit of benefits.
He noted that his success has come from years of hard work, business ventures, and strategic investments, stressing that he has never held any public office or relied on government patronage.
According to him, his involvement is focused on bridging the disconnect between government and citizens, particularly by creating platforms that engage young people and foster dialogue across different regions.
He also urged authorities at all levels to prioritise transparency, accountability, and empathy, emphasizing that public trust is essential for any democracy to function effectively.
Addressing recent criticisms, Obi Cubana rejected claims suggesting he downplayed the intelligence of the Igbo people, insisting he would never support narratives that undermine any ethnic group or promote division in the country.
He highlighted the need for governance to be more coordinated across local, state, and federal levels, noting that development should not be centralised but collectively driven to truly benefit citizens.
Speaking on his association with the City Boy Movement, he explained that the initiative is aimed at promoting inclusive political engagement, especially among youths and the private sector.
He also warned against reducing political participation to ethnic sentiments, stressing that focus should remain on ideas, policies, and national progress rather than divisive narratives.
