Tensions Explode As Wike Tells Makinde To ‘Go Home And Rest

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has again criticised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, suggesting he should have stayed out of active politics.
Speaking on Monday at the 107th NEC meeting of his faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, Wike said Makinde could have remained in his previous career as a contractor if he was not prepared for the realities of politics.
The former Rivers State governor, who has had a running feud with Makinde, bluntly told him to “go home and rest,” while noting that many PDP governors have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His comments came days after Makinde accused him of working to weaken the PDP in favour of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wike also dismissed allegations that he is aligned with the APC, pointing out that despite such claims, he has remained in the PDP while others have left.
While criticising defections and taking jabs at Makinde, he maintained that he is still open to reconciliation within the party, adding that efforts to resolve internal disputes would continue even after the party’s national convention.
He emphasised that commitment and resilience are essential in politics, insisting that he remains steadfast in the PDP and supportive of genuine reconciliation efforts moving forward.
