No Innocent Person Should Suffer — Ebonyi Commissioner Demands Transparent Probe Into Brother’s K!ll!ng
The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Sunday Inyima, has dismissed claims that the killing of his younger brother, Egeonu Inyima, was politically motivated, insisting that the deceased had no known political dispute with anyone.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the commissioner made the clarification while addressing members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ohaukwu Local Government Area who visited his country home in Izhiangbo to offer their condolences following the incident.
Inyima described reports linking his brother’s death to political conflict as false, misleading and capable of creating unnecessary tension in the state. He also condemned the circulation of unverified information about the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Egeonu was reportedly killed by suspected assailants at Umuogudu-Oshia Ngbo in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The commissioner described the incident as barbaric, unfortunate and deeply regrettable.
Despite the personal trauma caused by his brother’s death, Inyima appealed to the police and other relevant authorities to conduct a transparent and comprehensive investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible.
He cautioned individuals and groups against interfering in the investigation or attempting to influence the legal process, stressing that no innocent person should be implicated in connection with the crime.
“Though I am severely traumatised by the gruesome murder of my younger brother, I would not want anyone to suffer unjustly. No innocent person should be implicated or made to suffer for a crime he or she did not commit,” he said.
The commissioner further urged the authorities handling the case to ensure that justice was served without distortion or undue influence.
“Nobody, and I mean nobody, regardless of their status, including myself, should interfere in the matter. The legal process must be allowed to run its course until justice is fully served,” he added.
Inyima’s appeal comes amid concerns over reports attempting to link the killing to political disagreements. He maintained that the circumstances surrounding the incident should be established through a proper investigation rather than speculation.
The commissioner reiterated his call for the perpetrators to be brought to justice while urging the public to allow law enforcement agencies to carry out their duties professionally and ensure that anyone found responsible is held accountable.
