President Tinubu Vows Inclusive Infrastructure as He Commissions Key Abuja Road Project

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that no region is left behind in the execution of infrastructural projects across Nigeria. The President made this known during the commissioning of the right-hand service carriageway of the Inner Northern Expressway (INEX), linking Ring Road 3 (RR3) to the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX), also known as the Murtala Mohammed Expressway (Idu–Zuba Road), in Abuja.

Represented by Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Tinubu praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure. He described the newly completed road as a symbol of national progress and a core part of his administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda aimed at fostering connectivity, economic growth, and urban mobility.

“This project is more than just a road; it reflects our commitment to infrastructure that serves the people and drives sustainable development. We aim to replicate such progress nationwide with roads, bridges, railways, and more,” the President stated.

He urged citizens to protect public infrastructure, saying: “These assets belong to all of us and generations to come. Respect them.”

FCT Minister Wike Fires at Opposition Ahead of 2026 Polls

Earlier in his address, Minister Nyesom Wike detailed the extensive infrastructure interventions implemented under President Tinubu in the FCT over the past two years. He took a swipe at the opposition, questioning their campaign strategy ahead of the 2026 Area Council elections.

Wike said the administration’s visible achievements have already determined the outcome: “Let no one claim rigging when they lose. The projects you see are the real ‘rigging’—they speak for themselves.”

He cited the 16-kilometre INEX road, initially awarded in 2014 for N7 billion but completed at N31 billion due to inflation and variations, as a prime example of Tinubu’s resolve to finish inherited but stalled projects.

Master Plan and Road Design

Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Dauda, provided technical details of the project. He explained that the INEX serves as a critical link within the city’s northern corridor, stretching 32.5 kilometres from Maitama to ONEX.

The full design includes 10 lanes—two main carriageways with three lanes each and two service roads with two lanes each. The route begins at the IBB Golf Course in Maitama, passes through the Central Area between the National Mosque and the Yar’adua Centre, and continues through Wuye, Dakibiyu, and Idu before ending at ONEX.

Dauda emphasized that the road is being developed in phases, with the inaugurated section being the first.
