Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, the award-winning vocalist recounted how the man initially denied the pregnancy when she was 16 years old but later returned years later to apologize and request a chance to be part of their daughter’s life.

Waje said she did not oppose his request but insisted he take full responsibility by officially filing for his child, since he is a Canadian citizen.

According to her, both parties agreed to conduct a DNA test to establish paternity, but the man failed to follow through and eventually cut off contact. By 2015, communication had ceased completely.

“I was 16 when I got pregnant, and I didn’t tell my mum until I was about five months gone,” Waje shared.

“When we went to his family, he denied the pregnancy. He said it wasn’t his, so it became my word against his. Years later, he came back saying he was young and immature then, but now wanted to meet his daughter.

“I said no. It wasn’t out of bitterness — I was in a happy relationship at the time. Sometimes, when a single parent, especially a mother, restricts access to the other parent, it’s not out of resentment but a desire to protect the child’s peace.”

Waje added that she urged him to file for their daughter, but after agreeing to a DNA test, he delayed the process and disappeared. “The last time we spoke was in 2015,” she said.
