Nigeria dominated Group C, securing a perfect nine points with convincing wins over Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda. That performance set up a last-16 clash with Mozambique, who advanced as one of the best third-placed teams with just three points.

On paper, the matchup looks heavily in Nigeria’s favor. Mozambique’s only group-stage victory came in a dramatic 3-2 win over Gabon, while defeats to Cameroon and the Ivory Coast underscored the challenge they face. However, Iwobi believes the numbers only tell part of the story.

Speaking ahead of the game in Fes, the midfielder stressed the importance of taking Mozambique seriously.

“We have three wins from our group games, but we can’t afford to be complacent. We have to give 100 percent and make our nation proud,” Iwobi told Ademola Victor TV.

The 29-year-old has been a standout performer for Nigeria in Morocco, orchestrating play from midfield as the Super Eagles built momentum. His impact was evident in the opening 2-1 victory over Tanzania, where he set up both Semi Ajayi’s opener and Ademola Lookman’s winning goal — making him only the second Nigerian since 2010 to record two assists in a single AFCON match.

Iwobi continued his influential form against Tunisia, completing 51 accurate passes from 59 attempts and playing a crucial role in Nigeria’s third goal in a thrilling 3-2 win.

Currently playing for Fulham at club level, Iwobi is the most-capped player in the Super Eagles squad with 93 appearances and is featuring at his third AFCON.

Nigeria, champions in 1980, 1994, and 2013, are chasing their fourth continental title in the ongoing tournament.
