In a communiqué issued after its 10th meeting held in Bauchi, the Forum expressed vigilance regarding TCN’s commitment to restoring electricity to all states in the region by May 27, 2024.

The Forum urged the Federal Government to compel TCN to take immediate action while outlining short-term plans to establish solar power plants capable of generating a minimum of 10 Megawatts per state. It highlighted the region’s unique vulnerability as the sole area in Nigeria relying on a single transmission line to supply electricity to six states, covering an extensive landmass with a population exceeding 35 million.

Furthermore, the Forum emphasized the urgent need for infrastructure development, specifically calling for the extension of 330KV transmission lines and the maximization of existing hydropower resources in Kashimbilla and Dadin Kowa dam.

While acknowledging the NorthEast Development Commission’s (NEDC) efforts in implementing developmental projects, the Forum advised the Commission’s leadership to adopt a consultative approach in its operations and project prioritization, emphasizing the importance of agricultural investment to bolster regional development.

In response to global food security challenges exacerbated by conflicts and climate change, the Forum pledged continued support for agricultural initiatives, including the procurement of improved seedlings and fertilizers to enhance crop yields and foster agricultural transformation.

In conclusion, the Forum reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with stakeholders, such as OCP Africa, to promote agricultural advancement and economic growth in the Northeast region.
