Despite the mixed reactions that followed Badaru’s appointment as minister, the group commended President Tinubu for the choice, highlighting Badaru’s background and trajectory.
In his previous role as the Governor of Jigawa State, Badaru’s focus on security was evident, as he engaged with daily Security Reports as a priority.
This experience, along with his role as the Chief Security Officer of Jigawa State, demonstrates his familiarity with modern governance and matters of citizen safety. The group emphasized that Jigawa State has become one of Nigeria’s most peaceful states during his leadership.
Addressing concerns about Badaru lacking military training for his position, the NPF dismissed such notions. They argued that those who suggest that military training is a prerequisite for a Defence Minister’s effectiveness are attempting to divert attention.
The NPF reminded that a Nigerian Minister’s responsibility is to coordinate the efforts of skilled professionals under their jurisdiction.
Citing past examples, the group referred to former Northwest governor Engr (Dr) Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who successfully held the Defence Minister portfolio. They underscored that being a Minister doesn’t require specialized expertise beyond sound management.
The NPF shared their excitement about reports indicating that Badaru has already taken action by assembling a team of experts to support him in his duties. According to Adamu, this proactive step showcases Badaru’s clarity of focus and understanding of effective team dynamics.
Furthermore, the NPF highlighted Badaru’s familiarity with critical aspects of national defence policy, including ensuring the readiness of the Armed Forces, maintaining a balanced arsenal, caring for the welfare of soldiers, boosting Defence Industries, and contributing to global peace and stability.
The group commended Tinubu for selecting a competent and patriotic individual with a strong track record of accomplishment.
Adamu concluded by asserting that, based on their research and consultation with military experts, Badaru’s appointment as Minister of Defence is a transformative move aligned with the spirit of “Renewed Hope.”
