NUC Registrar: Plateau University Not Facing Shutdown....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The administration of Plateau University, Bokkos, has firmly refuted allegations circulating that the National Universities Commission (NUC) intends to close down the institution.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Jos, Mr. Yakubu Ayuba, the Registrar of the University, categorically denied the claims.

This denial comes in response to assertions made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State, conveyed by Mr. Shittu Bamaiyi, its acting Publicity Secretary. Bamaiyi’s statement suggested that the NUC had finalized plans to shut down the university.

Bamaiyi went further to allege that the NUC had decided to revoke the institution’s certification and accreditation due to purported interference by the state government in its management.

However, Ayuba countered these assertions, labeling them as false, misleading, and politically motivated. He emphasized that Plateau University’s academic affairs should remain untouched by political agendas.

Ayuba highlighted that since the resolution of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, the university’s academic calendar has been progressing smoothly, with exams scheduled to commence on April 15, 2024. He also noted that admissions into various programs, approved by the NUC, have been concluded without any hindrance.

Moreover, Ayuba clarified that no staff members, including those recently hired in new departments, have been terminated.

He emphasized the university’s growing strength, with a student population exceeding 10,000, and reassured stakeholders that the government is committed to ensuring the students’ future remains secure.

Ayuba concluded by affirming that there are no grounds for concerns regarding the relationship between the NUC and the university, dismissing fears of license withdrawal as unfounded.

In summary, Plateau University’s management maintains confidence in the institution’s integrity and ongoing operations despite recent speculations.
