The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has issued updates regarding the divestment activities of several International Oil Companies (IOCs) in Nigeria. This announcement was made on Monday by Olaide Shonola, head of the commission’s public affairs unit.

These updates come in response to recent allegations by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. On Sunday, August 25, Abubakar claimed that President Bola Tinubu had improperly favored his nephew in acquiring certain oil assets in Nigeria. Abubakar, through his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, called for an explanation from the federal government on why Oando Plc, which is owned by Tinubu’s nephew, received expedited approval to acquire the onshore assets of AGIP and ENI, while other deals like the Shell/Renaissance and Mobil/Seplat transactions face delays.
