Komolafe was recently conferred with a Professional Doctorate in Leadership (Energy Law) by the International Business School of Scandinavia and received the Global Sustainable Leadership Award at the Global Sustainable Education and Leadership (G-SEL) Conference 2025 held at the House of Lords, UK Parliament.
In a statement issued on Saturday, NiDA London President, Dr. Sani Abubakar, and Secretary, Mrs. Chioma Okorafor, congratulated Komolafe for elevating Nigeria’s image on the world stage.
“These honours reflect the depth of leadership and innovation Nigerians bring to global governance. Engr. Komolafe’s achievements prove that merit, integrity, and hard work are globally acknowledged — reinforcing Nigeria’s reputation as a nation of excellence,” the statement read.
The group commended Komolafe’s transformative reforms at NUPRC, especially in implementing the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), boosting indigenous participation, and driving sustainable development in host communities.
“Under his stewardship, the upstream oil and gas sector has recorded measurable progress — from rising rig counts to fiscal surpluses. The Host Community Development Trust has surpassed ₦350 billion, funding critical projects that promote peace and prosperity in oil-producing areas,” NiDA noted.
The statement further emphasised that Komolafe’s achievements are enhancing investor confidence and positioning Nigeria as a transparent, competitive hub for energy investment in Africa.
“By combining regulatory discipline with strategic foresight, he has shown how African leadership can shape global energy policy. His work inspires young Nigerians to uphold professionalism, innovation, and integrity,” the group added.
Since assuming office, Komolafe has overseen a dramatic expansion of Nigeria’s upstream sector — increasing active rig counts from eight in 2021 to 69 in 2025, representing a 760% growth. The commission has also consistently exceeded government revenue targets, recording surpluses of 18.3% in 2022, 14.6% in 2023, and 84.2% in 2024.
The NiDA officials concluded by urging Nigerians worldwide to emulate Komolafe’s example:
“As Nigerians in the diaspora, we take pride in seeing one of our own recognised globally. We encourage every citizen to uphold integrity and professionalism to sustain Nigeria’s growing global relevance in governance and energy leadership.”
