Obasanjo made this appeal on Tuesday during the 70th birthday celebration of Bells University Vice Chancellor, Professor Oludele Ojediran, held at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Emphasizing the need for youth empowerment, Obasanjo called on governments at all levels to equip young Nigerians with the skills and opportunities to become job creators rather than job seekers.

“President Tinubu and the Federal Government must develop a sustainable financing strategy for education. All levels of government should also focus on empowering the youth to become providers of job opportunities,” Obasanjo stated.

The former president also commended LAUTECH for producing exceptional academics and administrators, citing Professors Adeyemi and Ojediran, both of whom have served as Vice Chancellors of Bells University, as role models.

“I have always championed education as a service rather than a profit-driven venture. Sustaining the educational legacy of our nation is a commitment I hold dear,” he added.

Monarch Calls for Agricultural Innovation

At the event, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, lauded Obasanjo for his significant contributions to education and agriculture in Nigeria.

The monarch encouraged Professor Ojediran, an agricultural engineering expert, to apply his expertise to foster agricultural development in Ogbomoso and neighboring areas.

Oba Olaoye also pledged farmland to individuals interested in agricultural initiatives, expressing his support for projects that would promote local and national development.
