Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has commended Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, for enacting the Governors and Deputy Governors Pension Repeal Law. This legislation terminates the provision of life pensions for former governors and deputy governors of the state.
During a recent visit to Governor Otti in Nvosi Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Obasanjo praised the decision as a step in the right direction and expressed hope that other Nigerian governors would emulate it. He emphasized the importance of focusing on infrastructure development and urged Otti to remain resolute despite potential criticism and opposition.
Addressing Otti, Obasanjo highlighted the disparity between the lavish pension schemes for former governors and the unpaid pensions of ordinary citizens, applauding Otti’s commitment to ending such excesses.
