Speaking during a visit to Bauchi on Sunday, where he met with Emir Dr. Rilwanu Adamu, Obasanjo expressed deep concern about the rising threats facing the nation. He stressed that addressing insecurity requires collaboration with local leaders, noting that many criminals operate within communities.

Obasanjo advocated for community policing as an effective strategy to identify and address criminal activities. He stated, “During our time in office, we prioritized the security of lives and properties across the country. We urgently need to act now.”

He added, “The best form of security is community policing because everyone knows their neighbors. This makes it easier to spot the bad elements.”

Calling on traditional leaders to promote community policing, he said it could significantly reduce crime rates. He highlighted the importance of unity and collective efforts, recalling that his administration’s successes stemmed from collaborative decision-making.
