Obaseki Explains His Do Or Die Comment On Edo Election

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has reiterated his claim that Saturday’s governorship election is a “do or die affair,” despite criticism from opposition members. “It’s a do or die affair because if they do, we die,” he stated. He expressed concern about the “impunity and recklessness” he attributes to the opposition, warning that their takeover would spell disaster for the state.

Obaseki alleged that the APC has plans to rig the election but expressed confidence that the people of Edo would resist these efforts. He highlighted the need to safeguard the electoral process, warning of severe consequences if the opposition succeeds.

He also raised concerns about police impartiality leading up to the election, accusing law enforcement of bias. “The way they operate suggests they forget that the police are funded by taxpayers. They need to act more professionally and without bias,” he remarked.

Additionally, Obaseki criticized the opposition’s tactics, claiming the APC is using intimidation out of fear of losing the election.
