Obaseki’s Govt Faces Backlash For Uncompensated Property Seizures, Edo To Pay Owners

The Edo State Government has revealed plans to compensate individuals whose lands or properties were unlawfully seized or destroyed by the previous administration under former Governor Godwin Obaseki.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This announcement was made by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, in Benin on Monday.

Osagie stated that Obaseki’s government had acquired community lands and properties without providing compensation. He emphasized that Senator Monday Okpebholo’s administration is working to correct these wrongs to restore harmony within the state.

He further explained that Senator Okpebholo would investigate all claims and ensure that those entitled to compensation are duly paid.

Osagie assured that his ministry would manage all lawsuits that could potentially hinder the government’s progress, ensuring there are no distractions.

“There are many properties of Edo citizens, who have worked hard and invested in the state, that were forcibly acquired without compensation,” Osagie said. “This administration is committed to ensuring that the owners of such properties are compensated, and any properties that need to be returned will be handed back to their rightful owners.”

He added, “My ministry will provide legal counsel to the governor to ensure that governance in the state is fair, humane, and free from oppression or victimization.”
