Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has strongly denounced the recent killings of Nigerian army personnel in Delta State. Reports from Naija News revealed that soldiers engaged in a peacekeeping mission were ambushed and fatally attacked by youths in the Okuoma Bomadi Local Government Area.

According to Tukur Gusau, the Director of Information at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), the incident occurred when troops responded to a distress call amid a communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities.

In response to this tragic event, Peter Obi issued a statement via his official platform, expressing profound dismay at the barbarity of the killings and stressing that such acts must not go unpunished. He called upon the government and security agencies to exert maximum effort in apprehending and prosecuting the perpetrators.

Obi lamented the recent spate of violence targeting security personnel, citing previous incidents where policemen were also reportedly killed while on duty in Delta State. He emphasized the critical role these officers play in maintaining peace and security within communities, and underscored the need for society to unequivocally reject such acts of violence.

Highlighting the sacrifices made by security operatives in the line of duty, Obi advocated for increased support, including comprehensive healthcare for the injured and adequate compensation and welfare for the families of those who lose their lives in service.

Expressing heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the respective security formations, Obi urged them not to be discouraged by these tragic events but to view them as a call to redouble efforts in their duties. He called for thorough investigations and decisive action to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In conclusion, Obi invoked prayers for the eternal repose of the fallen security officers and called upon all citizens to demonstrate solidarity and empathy towards their families during these difficult times.
