In 2020, Nigerian youths assembled at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos to protest against police brutality and widespread governance issues. Unfortunately, the protests took a tragic turn when soldiers opened fire on the demonstrators at the tollgate.

In remembrance of this incident, Ezekwesili stressed that the struggle persists. She shared her thoughts on X, stating: “How can we ever forget 20-10-20? A historic day when the youth of our nation discovered and began to collectively embody the profound words of Franz Fanon: ‘Each generation must, out of relative obscurity, discover its mission, fulfill it, or betray it.'”

“On this 3rd anniversary, we must never forget the heroes who were killed, injured, and tortured simply because they dared to stand up and demand a well-governed country that upholds their constitutional rights.
