He also praised the federal government’s plans to resume oil prospects in the region, marking a significant development after 30 years of oil well closure during the military administration of Gen. Sani Abacha.

During a courtesy visit to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Monday, King Igbara commended the cleanup exercise as a crucial step in addressing the long-standing environmental hazards faced by the Ogoni people.

He emphasized that Ogoni land had suffered severe environmental degradation due to oil prospecting activities, affecting the local population over the years.

The traditional ruler also expressed his enthusiasm for the federal government’s plans, facilitated by the Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC), to recommence oil prospects in the area.

He revealed that the anticipated production from the Ogoni oil well is estimated to reach 300,000 barrels of crude oil per day, constituting a substantial portion of the country’s total oil production.
