Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, made this announcement during a meeting with private orphanage operators in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Friday. Adeleye expressed dissatisfaction with the activities of some orphanage owners, emphasizing that the state will not tolerate unethical practices such as adoption fraud, child trafficking, or abuse.

She reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to child welfare and warned that any failure to adhere to established guidelines would result in prosecution. Adeleye highlighted that the primary purpose of operating an orphanage is to contribute to society through humanitarian efforts, and those not fulfilling their responsibilities would face legal consequences.

The commissioner also noted that the ministry is enhancing its data collection processes to ensure accurate recording and documentation of the children in orphanages.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Adejumoke Adewole, stated that the ministry will continue conducting unscheduled inspections of orphanages to ensure compliance with regulations.

In response, Mrs. Adeyemo Anthony, a representative of the private orphanages, praised the state’s efforts in monitoring orphanage homes and pledged cooperation to support the government’s initiatives for the welfare of vulnerable children.
