Ohanaeze Ndigbo also expressed its desire to cease the lamentations about ongoing bloodshed and violence, emphasizing its commitment to initiating peace by appealing to those responsible for the violence to embrace reconciliation.

Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President-General of Ohanaeze, made this declaration during a press conference held to announce the program for the September 29 Igbo Day celebration on Saturday, September 23, in Enugu State. Iwuanyanwu conveyed his weariness regarding the loss of Igbo lives at the hands of their fellow Igbo citizens.

Expressing concern over the persistent violence and destruction in the Igbo heartland, Iwuanyanwu stated, “I don’t want us to be constantly grieving. Igbos have entrusted me with the responsibility of leading them during this time.”

He further mentioned that some individuals resort to criminal activities due to factors such as hunger and unemployment, though he did not condone criminal behavior stemming from such circumstances.

As a result, Ohanaeze Ndigbo intends to shift from a kinetic approach to a non-kinetic one in its pursuit of restoring peace to Igboland.

Iwuanyanwu elaborated that, as a father figure to the Igbo people, it is his duty to mediate and promote peace among all parties.

Therefore, the group is initiating a non-kinetic approach to foster reconciliation and peace in the region. The President-General also highlighted the group’s ongoing efforts to create opportunities for young people in the region, emphasizing the importance of education and employment opportunities for preventing violence.
