Achimugu, flanked by two female EFCC officers, arrived at the court around 11:35 a.m.

Her arraignment follows her detention on Tuesday by the anti-graft agency over an alleged suspicious oil block deal worth N8.71 billion.

Sources within the EFCC confirmed to The Nation that the embattled entrepreneur would be charged in court after enduring an intensive eight-hour interrogation session in Abuja.

Achimugu, the Chief Executive Officer of Oceangate Engineering Oil and Gas Limited, was arrested shortly after landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja from London in the early hours of Tuesday.

EFCC Investigates 136 Bank Accounts

According to an affidavit filed by EFCC investigator Chris Odofin, Achimugu is under investigation for criminal conspiracy, money laundering, fraud, and possession of assets suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The EFCC disclosed that she operates 136 bank accounts across ten commercial banks—many of them corporate—and must explain the source and purpose of the funds flowing through these accounts.

Achimugu allegedly told investigators the N8.71 billion in question was an “investment fund” used for the acquisition of two oil blocks—Shallow Water PPL 3007 and Deep Offshore PPL 302-DO—via her company.

She claimed the funds were legitimately transferred to a government account with documentation from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

However, EFCC investigations uncovered that the $25.3 million payment for the oil blocks was funneled through bureau de change operators, raising serious concerns about the legitimacy and transparency of the transaction.
