In a post shared on her verified handle (formerly Twitter), Okonjo-Iweala explained that authorities are investigating the deepfake video, which falsely uses her image.

She wrote:
“Just alerting Nigerians. Another fake AI-manipulated video. The authorities are handling it. I just wanted to make you aware.”

The former Nigerian finance minister also reiterated that she does not maintain accounts on Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp, emphasizing that any posts using her name or image on those platforms are fraudulent.

“As I’ve repeatedly said, I never post on Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp. Anything appearing there with my image is not from me. I only post on Twitter/,” she clarified.
