Okpebholo Speaks On Close Relationship With OshiomholeThe Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has described former Governor Adams Oshiomhole as a father figure, emphasizing that their relationship extends beyond political ties. Okpebholo spoke about their close bond during a valedictory session in his honor, organized by the Senate on Wednesday.

Okpebholo, who was the senator representing Edo Central until his election as governor in September 2024, highlighted Oshiomhole’s invaluable role as both a mentor and a dependable advisor. He expressed gratitude for the guidance Oshiomhole has provided throughout his career.

In his speech, Okpebholo said, “Special mention goes to my father and dependable leader, Adams Oshiomhole. Being from the same state, we share a bond that goes beyond politics, and I can always count on you for advice as I take on my new responsibility.”

Oshiomhole Refutes Third-Term Senate Bid Amidst Speculation

Meanwhile, Senator Adams Oshiomhole has clarified that he does not intend to return to the Senate for a third term. Oshiomhole made the statement in response to Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s comment during the valedictory session for Okpebholo.

Akpabio had raised concerns about the possibility of Okpebholo “retiring” Oshiomhole from the Senate if he were to return. However, Oshiomhole quickly refuted the idea, noting that Okpebholo does not represent his senatorial district. Okpebholo previously served as the senator for Edo Central before his election as governor.

In response to Akpabio’s remark, Oshiomhole clarified, “No, sir, he’s from Edo Central.” When asked about the potential of retiring from the Senate, Oshiomhole added, “By the time he’s coming back, I might already be retired, because if you add eight years to the current figure, I do not intend to do three terms here.”

Okpebholo’s victory in the September 21 governorship election marked a significant political shift in Edo State, as he triumphed over the PDP’s Asue Ighodalo and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata to become the state’s new governor.
