In a statement released on Sunday, Okupe commended Tinubu for his management of the nation’s economic issues and his focus on debt reduction and social welfare.

Responding to Tinubu’s recent national broadcast on economic challenges, Okupe highlighted the administration’s achievements and ongoing efforts to enhance economic stability and living conditions.

Okupe remarked, “President Bola Tinubu’s address met Nigerians’ expectations. For the first time, the President clearly outlined the challenging economic conditions his administration inherited.”

He underscored the government’s achievement in reducing the debt servicing ratio from 97% to 68%, a significant step given the potential need for substantial borrowing had the fuel subsidy remained in place.

Okupe also noted key achievements from Tinubu’s speech, including increasing the minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000 per month, committing over N45 billion to a student loan scheme, raising national oil production to over 1.6 million barrels per day, and substantial investments in MSMEs and youth development programs.

Additionally, Okupe praised the administration’s efforts to lower living costs and food inflation through temporary food imports and tax reductions on essential goods.

He observed that the current administration’s performance is competitive with previous ones and urged Nigerians to hold state and local governments accountable for their revenues. Okupe also acknowledged the President’s recognition of the right to protest.

“This speech has countered the misinformation about President Tinubu’s capacity to address economic challenges and has rekindled our hope for a better future for all Nigerians,” Okupe concluded.
