In a statement released on Saturday by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group expressed strong support for Okwukwu’s emergence and cautioned Southeast Governors against actions that could sabotage the collective interest of the Igbo nation.
Okwukwu was elected on Friday during the organization’s convention in Port Harcourt, although reports suggest that a factional president has also emerged.
Reacting to the situation, IPOB warned that any further efforts by the governors to impose an alternative leader on Ohanaeze would prompt the group to mobilize against them, ensuring they would never hold political power or influence in the region again.
Emma Powerful stated:
“The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, commends the election of Barr. Uche Okwukwu as Ohanaeze Ndigbo President-General.
“We urge Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Southeast Governors, and Ohanaeze IMEOBI not to subvert the people’s clear choice for selfish political interests.
“By actively undermining the security and progress of Igboland, these governors, led by Hope Uzodinma, continue to show disregard for the will of the majority of Igbos worldwide. If reports are true that these leaders have rejected Barr. Uche Okwukwu as the legitimate choice, they are fueling the chaos their backers have long sought to impose on Igboland’s socio-cultural and political stability.”
