Olubadan-Designate Ladoja Sh*cks Ibadan, Says He’ll Still Teach After Coronation

Olubadan-designate and former Oyo State governor, Rashidi Ladoja, has promised to return to the classroom after his coronation, pledging to teach Mathematics and Physics at his alma mater, Ibadan Boys’ High School.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ladoja, who taught at the school before venturing into politics, made the commitment on Monday during a courtesy visit by the school’s principal, Rasheed Fasasi, and members of the management team to his Bodija residence.

“Beyond being an alumnus, I also taught Mathematics and Physics here in the past. After my coronation, I intend to return to the school and engage the students in classwork,” Ladoja said.

He explained that the gesture would allow him to inspire a younger generation while reconnecting with his academic roots.

Though several past Olubadans had backgrounds in education, none actively returned to teaching after ascending the throne. For instance, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade I (2007–2016) began as a teacher in the 1930s before joining the colonial army and politics; Oba Moshood Lekan Balogun worked as a university lecturer before his political career; while his immediate predecessor, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, briefly taught in a primary school before moving into technical studies.

Ladoja, however, is set to break tradition by stepping back into the classroom as monarch.

Principal Fasasi commended his resolve, describing it as a source of pride and inspiration to students. He also congratulated Ladoja on his forthcoming coronation and wished him a successful reign.

Ladoja, who became Olubadan-designate following the death of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin in July, is expected to be installed as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland under the city’s merit-based succession system.
