Omotola Reveals Sh*cking Reason She And Genevieve Were Banned From Nollywood

Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde recently opened up about the ban imposed on her and several top actors by movie marketers back in 2005.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking in an interview with Yanga FM Nigeria, she described the incident as a significant turning point in her career.

Omotola explained that the restriction targeted eight of the industry’s leading actors at the time, including herself, Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Nouah, Jim Iyke, Stella Damasus, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Nkem Owoh, and one other colleague.

The ban prevented them from working with certain film marketers, effectively limiting their participation in projects during that period. While marketers claimed the actors were negatively influencing the industry, Omotola revealed the real reason was their push for higher standards and better-quality filmmaking—a move that apparently unsettled those controlling production and distribution.

She noted that the ban’s duration varied among the actors. While some were reinstated after about a year, her own restriction lasted longer, partly because she chose not to attend a meeting organized by the marketers to resolve the issue, which strained her relationship with them further.

Despite the setback, Omotola refused to remain idle. She ventured into music, releasing her debut album, and focused on business, investing in property and other ventures outside entertainment.

Reflecting on the period, Omotola said it allowed her to grow in other areas and remain productive, turning the challenge into an opportunity for personal and professional development.

Recounting the ban, she said, “The first eight were me, Genevieve, Ramsey Nouah, Jim Iyke, Stella Damasus, RMD, Nkem Owoh, and one other person. We were eight—they just banned us.”
