This development comes in the wake of the House of Assembly’s commencement of an impeachment process against the deputy governor, prompted by a petition alleging gross misconduct during his tenure as acting governor in the absence of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who was on a medical vacation.

Speaking to The PUNCH on Thursday, APC Chairman Ade Adetimehin underscored that the impeachment proceedings were entirely within the legislative purview, and the party had no intention of interfering.

He stated, “The House of Assembly is investigating matters related to the Deputy Governor’s office during his time as acting governor when Governor Arakunrin Oluwafotimu Akeredolu was on medical vacation, and nothing more.

As a political party, we are not involved in any matter concerning the legislative body’s work. We can only observe the developments.”

Meanwhile, the Ondo State House of Assembly has assured the public of fairness in the ongoing impeachment process against the deputy governor.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Olatunji Oshati, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, it was emphasized that the letter sent to the deputy governor by the Assembly did not imply a presumption of guilt for the allegations leveled against him.

The statement clarified, “We deem it necessary to address certain misconceptions regarding the allegation letter served on the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon.

Lucky Aiyedatiwa. It is crucial for our citizens to understand that an allegation letter is not equivalent to an impeachment verdict. Indeed, the allegation letter served on the deputy governor marks the initiation of the impeachment proceedings.

However, it is important to recognize that this is a process rooted in due diligence, not a hastily executed impeachment. We are mindful of our present Assembly’s integrity and will not waver in our constitutional obligations to our constituents.”
